Our History

In 1977, Richard Kelly opened the doors to The Color Shop store, located in downtown Martin. An immediate asset and important community partner, The Color Shop has been a family owned and operated venture since the day it opened. From the beginning, he involved his children, Bubba [Nicholas] and Angie, in The Color Shop business and allowed them the opportunity to shadow him as he assisted customers on the floor of the store. Like a second home to them, his children grew into full-time staff members and co-owners who learned from Mr. Richard Kelly about the importance of helping families and business owners in the community. The family remains in charge of the business and active in the community. Over the years, the business has experienced several expansions with the store that include the addition of Color Shop Construction, Color Shop Restoration, and the plumbing and handyman sectors.

Our Teams

Owner and operator Richard Kelly performs in-home measurements, furniture restorations, and consultations. Interior Designer Cheryl McClure is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in Interior Design and has over 30 years of experience. Our design needs staff includes Richard’s daughter Angie Hughey and Teddy Vincent, who is available from 6 AM til noon.

The construction department section of our business, Color Shop Construction, is owned and operated by Richard Kelly’s son Bubba [Nicholas] Kelly. Bubba is a licensed contractor and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in Business. Allison Hughes is our office manager and is a wealth of information and resources related to nearly every aspect of our business. We also have individuals on staff who primarily focus on new home construction and home renovation with specialization in cabinetry, counter tops, fireplaces, lighting, window replacement and window treatments.

Our Store and Products

Our 4,500 square foot show room offers a wide array of service products for any number of home projects. The Color Shop store offers a multitude of carriers and brands of carpet, hardwood, laminate, vinyl flooring, and ceramic. We sell Farrell-Calhoun paint products, but we can match paint samples from other companies or any color that you would like. The Color Shop Plumbing Services provides plumbing, drain and sewer services, and more. Our professional plumbing team offers repair for a variety of plumbing needs including drips, leaks, clogs, blockages, and more.
